OUR STORY

When the scran began

Kin Kitchen was born in 2019 out of a love of vegan and vegetarian food and bringing people together. What started as pop-ups to raise funds for local charities has grown into a community food project designed to be both receptive and responsive to needs of the community relating to food poverty & education, sustainable food practises, and social inclusion.

The key aims of the project

  • To create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces that bring people together from across our community to share food, connect, and learn.

  • To address food poverty and promote sustainable food practises.

  • To raise awareness of various inequalities and injustices, how they intersect with food justice, and address systemic oppression.

Where we’re at

We now have a team of 50+ volunteers entirely running the project, and a combination of self funding, small grants, and partnership work means we host free community meals, cooking classes, meal kits, workshops, foraging walks, and community events.

We believe everyone should have access to nutritious and delicious food, and we love to use food as a catalyst for both socio-political change and to create community. We are ever evolving and changing, led by the skills and interests of the volunteer team, and the needs of our community.
